Tips
Your alternator is what charges the battery on your vehicle.
Before replacing your alternator:
- Test your battery voltage to determine if it is functioning properly. A fully charged battery should read around 12.5 volts
- Check for worn belts that may cause low output from your alternator
- Check for poor connections between the battery and alternator; battery terminal may be corroded
Your alternator may be malfunctioning if:
- The alternator light on your dashboard fails to light up when you start your vehicle
- The alternator light on your dashboard continues to stay on after your vehicle has started and is running
- Voltage drops when using accessories in the vehicle ie air conditioning
- You hear a loud, grinding noise
